ON DECEMBER 7

As the First City on the planet to host the World's Big Sleep Out in 2019,
we have created a very special start to the night.

While the Sleep Out part of December 7 in McEwan Park, Petone, Lower Hutt is for 18+,
we have taken the opportunity to engage with our families and younger people by
holding a FREE Christmas Concert aptly named ‘SANTA @ SUNSET’
with a range of artists, bands, choirs and entertainers plus the Jolly Guy as well.
______________
After 9pm when our summer sun sets, the scene will change with another eclectic presentation
of music, plus the celebrity ‘Bedtime Storytellers, bands, poets and headline artists
entertaining those who will later sleep out under the stars.

World's Big Sleep Out Recipient Charities

WBSO, Hutt City Council & Destination Hutt Support the following Registered Organisations
Internationally & Domestically within New Zealand.

UNICEF

Charity Recipient

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) works in more than 190 countries and territories to put children first. UNICEF has helped save more children’s lives than any other humanitarian organization by providing health care and immunizations, safe water and sanitation, nutrition, education, emergency relief and more.

UNICEF’s work through fundraising, advocacy and education around the world is working toward the day when no children die from preventable causes, and every child has a safe and healthy childhood.

The Institute of Global Homelessness

Charity Recipient

The Institute of Global Homelessness (IGH) supports an emerging global movement to end street homelessness. Based in Chicago at DePaul University, IGH partners with key global cities to develop local leaders, set metrics, scale successes, and drive advocacy – all to accelerate progress in reducing and ending homelessness. IGH envisions a world where everyone has a place to call home – a home that offers security, safety, autonomy, and opportunity

Malala Fund

Charity Recipient

Malala Fund is working for a world where all girls can learn and lead. Malala Fund advocates for resources and policy changes needed to give all girls a secondary education, invests in local education leaders and amplifies the voices of girls fighting for change

A Recognised NZ Charity

Orange Sky is a non-profit organisation providing a free mobile laundry and shower service for people experiencing homelessness. Our first New Zealand van was launched in Auckland in October 2018, followed by a second van in Wellington a year later in October 2019. Each week, more than 50 volunteers give their time to help positively connect some of the 41,000 New Zealanders doing it tough. The focus is on creating a safe, positive and supportive environment for people who are too often ignored or feel disconnected from the community. We want to make sure that everyone has access to free laundry and shower services - but most importantly - the opportunity to connect and feel welcome.
